1️⃣ Definition of Elderly Family

‍

- All family members are aged 60 or above

- Living in the flat for more than two years

- Non-CSSA recipients

2️⃣ Elderly people can apply for a 50% rent reduction whether they are in receipt of Higher or Normal OALA.

‍

- For sole proprietor receiving Normal/Higher Seniors Allowance: $2845/$3,815

- Family Income Limit for one person in the program $9,058  

- Normal/Higher Longevity Allowance for the elderly: $5690/$7630

- Income limit for a 2-person family under the scheme $13,685

3️⃣ Audit Guidelines

As long as the income limit is not exceeded

($9,058 for one person / $13,685 for two persons)

Elderly people can apply regardless of whether they are receiving other allowances (fruit grant/disability allowance) or even if they are working.

‍

Example:

My mother-in-law does not work and receives Higher OAA, while my uncle receives Higher OAA and works as a part-time security guard (with a monthly salary of $6,000) due to his good health condition after retirement.

Total income for two persons = $7630 (Higher Longevity Allowance for two persons) + $6000 (Uncle's part-time income) = $13630

Two people can apply for the program because they are not over the limit ($13,685).

4️⃣ The following cannot be applied for

Applicants whose living space exceeds the maximum allocation standard for their family size or elderly persons who own properties in Hong Kong are not eligible to apply.

Example:

Elderly person who used to live with his/her children in a 4-person flat, but the children moved out and only the two elderly persons are living in the flat. (because the flat was allocated as a four-person flat but only two elderly persons were living there at the time of application (the living space of the flat exceeded the maximum allocation standard for a two-person flat ))

CONCLUSION: Not eligible to apply.

5️⃣ Application Methods
