One in five adults suffers from chronic pain

According to the World Health Organization, one in five adults suffers from chronic pain (excluding cancer). Chronic pain is defined as pain that occurs intermittently or continuously for three months or more, and can be caused by a variety of factors, such as recovery from injury or surgery, muscle and joint strain, joint degeneration, chronic inflammation or infection. Chronic pain does not only cause pain, but also affects the patient's mood and behavior, social and interpersonal relationships in the long run. If not dealt with in a timely manner, the patient may easily fall into the following vicious circle, making it more difficult for the patient to get out of the predicament of chronic pain.

Sister Xin is 70 years old and works as a cleaning lady. She has been suffering from pain for a long time. She now works two jobs, working more than 13 hours a day, earning about $20,000 a month, and has suffered knee injuries as a result of her work.

Sister Xin suffers from chronic pain in her knees due to work-related injuries.

"I am 70 years old, I work two jobs and I have to work more than 13 hours a day. My health is not as good as before, especially my knees. My knees are not as good as before, especially my knees. Because I have to stand, bend and kneel all day long, my knees have suffered a lot of injuries, and they are swollen, inflamed and painful all day long. I went to the public hospital and the doctor told me that I need to have an operation to replace the artificial joint, but it has been almost 5 years since my turn to have the operation. I can only rely on painkillers to minimize the pain, and sometimes I wake up in pain after only two hours of training a night.

Introduced to the Labor Department's Occupational Health Clinic by Sunwoo.

One day, I was introduced to the Labor Department's Occupational Health Clinic by a staff member at Sunyu Academy. They told me that the Occupational Health Clinic could help working people with work-related illnesses, including muscular pain. The professional staff at the Occupational Health Clinic would listen to me, understand my work and my condition, provide me with appropriate diagnosis and medication, and refer me to other services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, etc. if needed.

In addition, they will agree to visit my workplace to understand the hazards associated with the disease and the correlation between the disease and the occupational disease in the working environment, depending on my needs.

The Occupational Health Clinic also organizes regular seminars, workshops and patient support groups to explain the concepts of occupational health and identify hazards so as to reduce the risk of occupational diseases among staff, and to promote experience sharing and mutual support among participants.

After listening to the staff of Sunyu, I felt hopeful. I decided to give it a try and made an appointment with the Occupational Health Clinic. I hope they can help me to relieve my pain, so that I can work and live better. I also hope that I can meet people who have gone through the same experience and support and encourage each other.
