Elderly caregivers shared that they were eager to experience and learn how music could help them improve their emotions, strengthen their bodies and build good relationships. Some participants shared that as a caregiver, they have been hiding at home for a long time, taking care of others and doing household chores, and they seldom care about themselves. In fact, they said that they have been burying a lot of pent-up emotions and pressure, which they have no way to express!
They shared that in this music therapy group, they feel "like they have found another piece of heaven, where they can relax and recuperate, and enjoy it, and they need this space very much".
It is through music therapy activities that the group hopes to enable participants to look at their needs and feelings regularly, to express themselves in music, to self-accept, to organize and to support each other - and to take up the role of caring for their families once they are strong again.
Slowly, even the shy couples and many of the participants now enjoy moving to the music and exploring their own happiness and needs! The emotional and self-care enhancement of these caregivers in the group was very fruitful. We saw that the caregivers gradually let go of their physical and mental baggage, and found inner resources in music to help them improve their mental, physical and interpersonal conditions, and to relieve their heavy stress.
