With the arrival of Taiwan's typhoon season, July and August are the peak months for typhoons in Taiwan, which bring heavy rains and strong winds that can cause danger to homes. In Taichung City, many areas were flooded during the recent afternoon thunderstorms, including the Shalu District, where the water in the three canals turned a blood-red color, causing fear among nearby residents. As typhoons are likely to bring heavy rainfall, flooding is the most common disaster rumor, and in severe cases, it can even cause death and destruction of homes and property.

Before a typhoon arrives, you can keep yourself updated with the latest typhoon news on TV, Internet or radio. Before the storm gets too heavy, you should prepare three days' worth of food, drinking water, first aid medicines and daily necessities in advance.
6 steps to prevent typhoons at home:
1. Prepare typhoon supplies such as emergency kit, 3 days of food, flashlight, etc. in advance.
2、Check whether the doors and windows are secure or not, you can add nail boards or stick tape.
3、Clean the gutter or drainage holes and keep them free to avoid accumulation of water.
4. Strengthen fixing or removing the balcony planter to avoid falling off by wind.
5. In low-lying flood-prone areas, move valuables to higher ground and prepare sandbags or waterproof gates.
6. Pay attention to typhoon news at all times and minimize unnecessary outings.
In times of typhoons, please avoid going out for non-essential purposes such as shopping for daily necessities, fishing at the seaside or watching flooding in reservoirs. If you still have to go out to work or for other emergency reasons, you should pay attention to driving safety, refrain from trespassing in locked areas and pay attention to the height of flooding in underground roads.
1. Keep an eye on typhoon news such as flooding, disasters and road closures.
2. Avoid going out unnecessarily even when the rain or wind is weakening and the eye of the typhoon may just be passing by.
3. Avoid entering a flooded basement, which may result in inadvertent electric shock.
4、Low-lying flood-prone areas, pay attention to the river and drainage system at any time, in the event of a disaster should immediately notify the relevant units.
5、Prioritize the use of flashlights during power outages to avoid fires caused by improper use of candles.
