As Taiwan enters the winter solstice climate, with the onslaught of the cold front, in addition to daily prevention and self-care, the government will also strengthen the care measures for travelers and the elderly living alone during the low-temperature period, with the "Low Temperature and New Year's Holiday Caring for the Disadvantaged Project", which is a mechanism for activating the care mechanism when the temperature is lower than 10 degrees Celsius.
The Department of Social Aid and Social Work of the Ministry of Health Services released a national map of street people taking shelter from the cold. 17 counties and cities across the country provide 23 shelters and 38 supply points for travelers to take shelter and rest from the cold.
The Social Affairs Bureau of each county and municipal government will activate the cold weather care mechanism and enhance publicity. If you find people in need of assistance, please call the 1999 hotline, and in case of emergency, please call 119 for reporting.
National non-profit organizations, the Hongdao Foundation for the Welfare of the Elderly, the Huashan Foundation, the Old Five Elderly Foundation, and the People's Safety Foundation, provide winter warmth and care, gifts of cold-weather supplies, and phone calls for the elderly every winter.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare calls on people in the community to give full play to the spirit of neighborly solidarity, and to report to the Social Affairs Bureaus of the counties and municipalities when they find homeless people on the streets, especially those who are elderly or frail, and those who live alone, or call the Ministry of Health and Welfare's 1957 Welfare Hotline, so that governmental and non-governmental resources can intervene to provide assistance as soon as possible.
