[Sunyu Hong Kong] Sight Deterioration Should Not Be Ignored: Regular Checkups Are Important Hong Kong's Eye Care Resources Open to the Public
21% of elderly people in Hong Kong have below-normal vision An organizational study found that 21% of the elderly in Hong Kong have below-normal vision, with 1,774 elderly people aged 60 or above being screened between 2011 and 2016. Elderly people in Tuen Mun, in particular, had more serious vision problems, while those in Sha Tin had a relatively better performance, with only 9% of them having below-normal vision. Recommended annual checkup after age 50 Our eyes are the windows to our souls, and if they are not properly treated, our world can become a dark place. Most people know how to do annual checkups for their bodies, but they often neglect the need for regular eye checkups. Even if they have healthy eyes when they are young, they may still suffer from some "old age diseases" as a result of ageing. With the advancement of time and society, the need to use our eyes is becoming more and more frequent, so we should pay more attention to protecting our eyes. After the age of 40, healthy eyes should be examined at least once every two years, including dilated pupils to observe the retina and macula, and once a year after the age of 50.
