Common Diseases of the Elderly Common diseases of the elderly include osteoporosis, arthritis, fatty liver, hepatitis, diabetes mellitus, degeneration of eye and brain functions, cardiovascular diseases and cancers, etc. Introduction to Community Resources: Elderly Health Centres (EHCs) of the Department of Health The Department of Health (DH) has set up 18 EHCs across the territory to provide preventive health services, such as health assessment, health education, personal counseling, etc. Elderly people aged 65 or above can apply for membership. Elderly people aged 65 or above can apply for membership. Service Targets: All persons aged 65 or above are eligible to apply for membership of EHCs. Services: Provide preventive health services such as health assessment, health education and personal counseling. How to become an EHC member: Method 1 In-person application: All persons aged 65 or above are eligible to apply for EHC membership. Applications can be made in person at any EHC. On the day of application, the staff of the EHC will collect your personal information, including name, date of birth, contact telephone number and address for registration. Please note that each elderly person can only apply to one EHC for membership. Please do not duplicate your application, otherwise your previous application at other EHCs will be canceled. Method 2 Application in person: Fill in the application form and send it together with a copy of your Hong Kong Identity Card or other identification documents to one of the EHCs by fax or by post. Generally, we will process your application within 10 working days after receiving your application and send you a confirmation letter of membership application by post. If you do not receive the membership application confirmation letter within 20 working days after submitting the application form, please contact the EHC concerned.
